NCES Annual Meeting and Banquet: October 25, 2018
Photos from 2018 annual meeting.
The 2018 keynote speaker was Dr. Jennifer Tsuruda, Clemson University’s Extension apiculture specialist. In South Carolina alone, pollinated crops are valued at more than $25 million and Dr. Tsuruda provides extension services to South Carolina’s 3,500 beekeepers as well as managing her own hives. In addition to extension, Dr. Tsuruda is identifying genes that that make some honey bees better groomers than others, in hopes that beekeepers will use this information to breed bees with improved mite resistance and lower disease loads. At the banquet, Dr. Tsuruda will speak about protecting bees from pesticide exposure in the current climate when the attitude about pesticide use has become increasingly black and white.

The NC entomological society annual meeting is a wonderful way to connect with professional and aspiring entomologists in North Carolina. Our meetings provide an opportunity for graduate students and professional entomologists to present their research, for entomologist to network with potential employers, for outstanding entomologists to be awarded for their work, and for the general public to be educated about entomology.
