NCES Student Development Grant
The Society offers two development award cycles per year, one in the spring and one in the fall. Awards are up to $1500 each. The Fall 2023 deadline is Sept 1, 2023. Students are eligible to apply if they are NCES members. This award was formerly the Travel Award and has been expanded to cover professional development opportunities that do not require travel.

Outstanding Graduate Student Award
Each year the Society recognizes an outstanding M.S. student and outstanding Ph.D. student who are making significant contributions to the field of entomology and show potential for future scientific achievement. In addition to nominations by staff and faculty, students may nominate their fellow students or themselves. Students may be attending any college or university in North Carolina. Each awardee will receive a $100 and a plaque. The Outstanding Ph.D. Student awardee will present their research at the annual meeting and will be notified of their award two weeks prior to the banquet. Submission deadline: Sept 1, 2023.
Outstanding Contributions to Entomology Award (Professional)
The Society recognizes outstanding professional entomologists in North Carolina who make significant contributions in the field of entomology through their research and/or mentorship. This award is not being solicited this year. Let us know if you'd like to nominate someone in the future.
Outstanding Educator Award
This award is given annually in recognition of North Carolina educators who demonstrate outstanding use of insects or related arthropods in the teaching environment. Any educator (grades K-12) who uses insects to inspire and educate students, and who has not received this award within the previous three years, is eligible. This award is not being solicited this year. Let us know if you'd like to nominate someone in the future.
2023 NCES Photo Salon
This contest is open to members and non-members, with a special award for photographers twelve years old or younger. Submitted photos will be judged at the NCES annual meeting. All photos will be added to an NCES photo album on Facebook for pre-voting. Submission deadline Oct 1.
